Catholic Funeral Planning

  • When a Loved One is Seriously Ill

If you or a loved one is gravely ill, facing surgery, or near the end of life, please contact the parish office to request the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. This sacrament offers spiritual strength, peace, and healing through prayer and the anointing with holy oil. A priest will come as soon as possible.

  • Parts of a Funeral Mass

    Readings

Readings from Sacred Scripture are used to recall God's promises and fidelity at the Funeral Liturgy of your loved one. We ask that you choose three readings from the book of Scripture. Please choose readings that may be most appropriate for your loved one or have special meaning for your family. If a member of your family or a friend would like to do so then please let the parish office know in the form below.

    Prayer of the Faithful

You may invite a family member or loved one to lead the assembly in the Prayer of the Faithful.

    Eulogies

The parish priest/deacon or visting priest always preaches at the Funeral Mass. By preaching on Jesus Christ, who conquered death by his victory on the Cross, the priest/deacon shares the consolation of God with the family and the challenges the community to live more faithful lives.

A eulogy, given by a family member or friend, differs from a homily and consists of a reflection on the life of the deceased and how this person touched the lives of others.
